The Steam Engine

The steam engine, easily considered the most important invention of the Industrial Revolution was patented by James Watt but originally invented by Thomas Newcomen.

The steam engine was originally used to pump water out of mines but later was found useful in factories and was a huge contributing factor in heavy industrialism and started the first real “hands off” attempt at mass producing. This lead to an increase in productivity and reasserted the UK as a dominate exporter of goods.
