The policy of appeasement was an anti-war policy that gave Germany land they wanted rather then denying them that land. This was thought to be a way to prevent war because at the time Hitler promised that after he was given the land he demanded he would stop trying to gain territory for Germany, which he clearly didn’t as his invasion of Poland shows. Despite the policy being designed to prevent war, in actuality it made the war significantly worse. Germany at the start of the appeasement policy was still a relatively weak country, however with the¬†acquisitions of all the new land that the German army didn’t have to fight for the country became one of the stronger powers. The policy of appeasement was put forth by the then prime minister Chamberlain, who was the prime minister prior to Churchill, who was very much against the policy of appeasement.
